Still loving doing the slipper as a main project, but Mark & I decided to interrupt our respective current hobbies a little for the good of marital harmony, and build a couple of woodstrip canoes. I'm not going to detail this as fully as the slipper, but if Mark decides to, I'll add in the link.
So far, we've cut the panels for the strongback (a table on which to build), and marked out each of the station moulds (7 in all which then get cut as pairs.
Next up, we began by planing a smooth face onto each of the 20 foot long cedar boards to give a smooth surface for the foot of the circular which we intend to use to rip each strip.
That investment of £200 in a thicknesser has paid for itself 3 times over already, and make a dusty job very much easier
Dusty and noisy as it is, I didn't dare ask what Mark was using a ear plugs !
April had the moulds built:
Early May sees the first one about 3/4 stripped:
and finally stripped:
Above was around the end of May, but it took until September to get here:
Mine being the one in the foreground, just having had her final coat of varnish on the inside, while Mark's epoxied shell hangs on the wall awaiting sanding prior to trim fitment.
