So far, September's been a bit of a CBA month for some reason -
just couldn't seem to get motivated to DO stuff - until a mail from a
reader asking how I'm going to attach the decks (thanks Neil). Answer -
not entirely sure yet, but probably a mixture of epoxy & plugged
screw fastenings through the decks into the bulkhead tops.
Anyway, that kind of got me kick started, and down to some sanding
showing the absolute fairness of the sides - Not perfect, but not half
bad either!
My current schedule has another coat of epoxy being scraped on to
try to fill most of the low spots revealed by 4 hours of sanding with 80
grit on a (800mm) long board:
revealing some really quite good bits amidships:
and some other not quite so good areas closer to the bows:
this pattern is similar on the port side, but the film thickenss
variation is probably less than 0.3mm. However, I don't want to get
over-zealous with the sanding at this stage, and will opt for the "fill
the low-spots" approach first, followed a further attack with the
long-board once I have a little more epoxy depth to play with.
Another coat of bilge paint completes September's progress before our next holiday at the beginning of October.
